A year ends and another begins

The world this year ends with lots of crises. They cause governments and the media to stoke up people's fears. This is just like every year. Some problems will be resolved in the short term, i.e. 1 to 50 years. Most wars, epidemics and natural disasters are examples.

Other problems: climate change, overpopulation, overconsumption and wealth inequality might be changed by a brutal event, revolution, asteroid strike, errupting caldera and the like, but will more likely take much longer to resolve.

Ask yourself these questions:

1. Can any problem be resolved by worrying about it?

2. Can you do anything personally to change things?

3. If you can, are you willing to make the effort, take the risks or spend your money on resolution?

Personally 3. is where I come unstuck. I am happy to assuage my conscience by writing about issues and the odd donation here or there.

Deep down, I know that I am unable to make a difference. Besides, the fun side of life has siren calls. Oh despicable me!
